Formed as the last of the great glaciers retreated into mountains to the north, east, and south, the Caspian River valley is a vast, fertile plain bisected by the river which gave it its name. In the 900 years or so since humans have lived there, they’ve cleared the land for agricultural use, including the foothills which rim the edges of the valley.<\/p>\n
