A Tale of Help: MFGCast Helping Kids Through Extra Life

I recently received a request for help in spreading the word about, well, an extraordinary cause. It was my first as an official corporate suit *snort* and I was happy to find a way to offer our new friends at MFGCast a soapbox from which to ask for your help. Without further ado, here's Kurtis Aumueller. Show him some love, won't you?

MFGCast Extra Life

I have the great honor of talking to everyone about my podcast, The MFGCast, reaching out to different communities to help us collect donations for Extra Life. Extra Life is an organization dedicated to raising money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Extra Life joins with gamers (Board, video, RPG, etc.) for one day to basically play for 24 hours, $1 per hour. These donations have gone to support research and training, purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care, all to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.

Now, what does this have to do writing? They are a little more closely related than you would think. In many fantasy stories, and in many other genres of story, there is a story of a man/woman in love with the another. Or rather, a story of a father/mother or guardian being loving parents/guardians to their sons/daughters. Many of you love your mom or dad, brother or sister, son or daughter. What would you do for that person? In many stories the hero/heroine fights the biggest foes to save the loves of their lives. Dragons are vanquished, wars are waged and won, reputations are put on the line for those people that do the right thing for the ones they love. In many stories, some of them fantasy, someone can be easily healed by a potion or a spell. Then sometimes, in the society that someone lives in, there is no treatment for ailments that lead to a sickness, disability, or death.

Fortunately, in this day and age, there is help out there for those who need it. Every day, there a millions of children out in the world who get diseases, are plagued with disabilities, and unfortunately die every day from different diseases. I have a five year old son, Logan. He has ADHD. Every day is a challenge and is difficult to maneuver through the ups and downs of everyday life. But we don't have it an inkling as bad as other families have. Other families have children, young and old, that have cancer, birth defects, heart problems, and so on. Those problems bring on more problems: Stress, financial problems, social problems, etc.

Doing it right!

So then I think, "What would I do if something happened to Logan?" I would slay a dragon, I would wage my own war on what he was suffering from, I'd trade MY LIFE for his in a heartbeat. I would do anything for this little boy I love with all of my heart!

That's why I'm writing you today. My podcast about gaming, the MFGCast, along with others, are looking for teammates and people to donate to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Please consider helping us out. What would you do for the ones you love?

Thanks for reading.
