How We Use AI at Metaphor Publications
This page covers how AI tools are used across Metaphor Publications, including our website, blog content, manuscripts, and social media. We update it as our practices change.
In our writing and publishing process
We use AI as a tool in our content writing process — for research, drafting assistance, editing, and keyword optimization on blog posts and marketing copy. All content reflects our own creative vision, voices, and final editorial judgment. Nothing goes live without at least one human pass, and likely much rewriting, from one or both of us.
For our books: Once a manuscript is complete, we also use AI to assist with line-editing — checking grammar, punctuation, and spelling consistency across tens of thousands of words. This is a proofreading pass, not a creative one: AI doesn’t rewrite scenes, invent dialogue, or touch plot, characterization, or voice. Every suggested correction is reviewed and accepted or rejected by us, and we plan to keep using AI this way for future books in the series.
Michael also uses AI tools in image and video creation for our Instagram and TikTok content.
Why we use it this way
Metaphor Publications is a two-person operation. Michael and I write for, edit, market, and run this press ourselves — no staff, no outsourcing. Before we started using AI, the math simply didn’t work. Drafting, redrafting, beta reads, line edits, blog content, social media, SEO, formatting — the list didn’t get shorter no matter how early we started or how late we stayed at the keyboard.
We’re not going to pretend AI is a neutral convenience for us. It’s the difference between finishing this series at a pace we can sustain, and not being able to finish it at all. We use it carefully and skeptically, and because it genuinely changed what two people, working alone and on a very limited budget, can do — without cutting corners on the story, our art, or on each other.
A note on AI watermarking
Some AI models now embed an invisible marker in generated text to comply with EU transparency regulations. If a detection tool flags a marker in our content, that indicates AI touched the text at some stage — not that AI wrote it, or that the ideas, research, or voice aren’t ours. Given our editing process, many of our published posts may not carry a detectable marker at all; either way, this page remains the accurate account of how we work.
