Meridar Outpost One is a fantasy novelette set in the World of Menelon — an origin story for Coralin Callens, one of the central characters of The Legacy of Chandar romantasy series.
Coralin is a young Paladin priestess-knight of the Guardian Paladin Church, certain of exactly one thing: the Lady of Paladins has told her to go to the most dangerous outpost on the Vin-Llammázi border. Her mentor calls it naïve. Her superiors call it against regulation. Her commanding officer tells her flatly that if God wants her there, He’ll have to put her there Himself.
Coralin goes anyway — carrying the sting contained in a letter from her foster-brother Athos, a cavalry commander whose words cut deeper than he meant them to.
What she doesn’t expect to find at the border is a family. A hard-edged knight-paladin who refuses to leave her side. Two lieutenants who welcome her when everyone else sees only a liability. A commanding officer who learns to trust her. Bonds forged in danger that will outlast this posting — and that readers of The Legacy of Chandar will meet again.
