The Back Alleys of Old Castle

If you've looked at our map of Fernwall, you'll see that at the far south end of the city are the back alleys of Old Castle, which are in the district of Old Castle. It was once the proud City of Fernwall. In those days, Merchants Island was was still a rocky forest, and elf country, and Angels was—well, Angels; but it was just a small town that climbed up the hills from the bay.
This photo, which comes from I know not where, and that I've photoshopped it a bit for this illustration, is a perfect visual of what many of the streets in Old Castle now look like. Abandoned as business, industry, and political interests all moved north, it's now home only to the fishing fleet that makes its living harvesting fish and clams and oysters from the bay, and is slowly sinking. In some places, the old cobble stone streets are now four to six feet under water.
