Princess Caroline Has Been Taken Hostage

For the last few pages, you might have been wondering: Who is to be rescued? I mean, the graphic novel is titled "The Rescue", right? Well, now we get to the answer. Princess Caroline has been taken hostage by the dark elf wizard, Xectl, who does his best to show that compassion and inclusiveness the dark elves are are so famous for—in their own minds and among their followers. Except, it doesn't work on the princess.

The top panel of the page also shows a map. It shows, for the first time, not only where this story is taking place, but also the location of Bagédaan. In the next few pages we'll learn just why Xectl and the Confederation are so interested in the princess. For now, just know that she is a very valuable political chip on the global board. One whose ties go far above and beyond her title of royal princess. But then, Xectl and the Confederation's goals are global, so this makes sense.

This page also presents the first opportunity to introduce the war orc. Backbone of the Confederate army, they are, as you'll see if you click through to the wiki page, a disgusting and unnatural creature that should never exist on any world.
