From the mighty Mahantathanï river in the east, to the Great Western Ocean, Surmeidän is the only republic on Menelon. Fashioned after what they perceived to be the democratic form of government of the elves, their northern neighbors, Surmeidän is ruled by a national senate that is elected by provincial representatives. The provincial representatives are in turn elected by district representatives who are elected by local representatives. This makes the government of Surmeidän a cumbersome business, but nobody ever accused the Surmeidäni people of being in a hurry with their politics.

Surmeidän is, in some ways, the exact opposite of Vin-Nôrë. Where the latter is a dry, arid and rocky land, the former is an agricultural paradise. As such, its major export products are all agricultural. Cotton, flax products such as oils and cloth and spices are but a few of the cash crops Surmeidän exports around the world.
