Barbara is the daughter of working-class parents, born during the last few, horrid years of The Great War. Her father served briefly in the wretched Ameran Indi campaign and, like thousands of others, came home suffering from mental illness from which it would take him years to recover. Her mother is a potter with a well trafficked shop in Merchants in Fernwall that provides the family a modest, if decent, living. Her father joined her mother in running the shop when he returned from the war.
Given a decent, if basic education by her parents, Barabara worked hard to pass the police academy entrance examines as soon as she was old enough, and immediately after joined the force as a detective inspector. In 579 she cracked the Boweman murder case (See Raven's Tears, chapter 4.). Shortly after she was of the inspectors assigned to Chief Inspector Sir Vincent Sultaire (aka the Raven) to investigate the theft of the Magun-Zak.
