We first meet Sir Vincent Caldwell-Sultaire in the short story Raven's Lair (free). By that time he's already left his unhappy home, hoping to find a better future in "the city", i.e. in Fernwall. He next appears as one of the main characters in Raven's Tear's, where a lot more of his background and character are revealed as the story unfolds.
Sir Vincent Caldwell-Sultaire is the youngest son of three, born to the Baron of Valemount, Sir James Whitmore-Sultaire and Marissa Caldwell-Ravencross, who died of scarlet fever shortly after Vincent was born.
Throughout the series, Sir Vincent must outgrow his reputation a "rake" -- to use a kinder, and more generic term than the young noble deserves -- and learn to embrace his noble birth and its responsibilities. But, since this the bio of a fantasy fiction character central to the stories, I am obliged to not give away any juicy details about how that comes to be.
